Ninety years ago in October 1925, the Braidwood Country Women's Association branch first met in rented rooms and welcomed ladies visiting from Goulburn, Crookwell and Yass CWAs. Over the years the CWA ladies have supported the community with catering, caring for families in need, helping out at the local hospital, and fundraising for CWA charities.

The CWA rooms in Wallace Street were built in 1936 at the cost of 485 pounds plus 1200 pounds for water connection and amenities. They were used extensively as memorial rest rooms and as the Baby Health centre. During World War 2, the CWA ladies conducted fundraising afternoon teas and dances, made camouflage nets, did sewing for the Red Cross and manned the Observation Post.
Last Tuesday, the Braidwood CWA branch together with visitors from the 15 CWA branches in the Southern Tablelands Group gathered at the Braidwood Services Club to celebrate their 90th Birthday. About 50 people enjoyed a delicious baked dinner, speeches and reflections about the good work and associations of the Braidwood CWA branch. Congratulations Ladies!
