The members of the Braidwood Bowling Club are hoping that a goodly number of our local families are going to participate in the fourth year of the Braidwood Community Bank’s sponsored Bare-Foot Bowls Competition which starts this Friday 13th November. There is a $1,000-00 to be won over the four weeks, with play starting at 6PM, and it would be good if all the names are in by 5.30 so that which team plays with who can be organised. If you are on your own the organisers may be able to find a spot for you as often a player of an entered team is un-available. A team can only have one registered player in it as the whole idea of the competition is to introduce people to the magnificent game of bowls.

Last Thursday late in the day when the sun came at 4PM, the 1st semi-final of the 2015 Fours Championship was played when the team led by Laurie Riley with Colin Elder, Gary Collard & Stan Wisbey defeated Aaron Clarke with Gary Kiff, Barry Backhouse, & Tom Watson 17 to 15 in what turned out to be an unexpected result as at the end of 21 ends the score was 15 all and the extra end had to be played so they always used to say no game of bowls is over till the fat lady sings and was similar result as the Melbourne cup 2 days earlier with the favourite being not there at the post.
On Saturday the Parliamentary shield was contested on the Braidwood Bowling Greens when an A & a B team of 4 bowlers from each of the 9 clubs in the Central South Coast District plus two teams from the district executive played a morning & an afternoon game in what turned out to a most beautiful day. There was some excellent bowls played and the possum and Gorie watched together and in the afternoon game when we were pretty sure our A team playing against Tuross Head had the game won we went to the other green to see how the B team were going only to see them down 13 to 8 with 2 ends to go but whether with our encouragement or their ability to fight back they scored a 6 followed by followed by a 3 to win 17 to 13. Thanks go to the Lady Bowlers & the wives of the men bowlers who provided the salads and the team of volunteers who commanded the barbecue to feed the starving 100 in fast time and the volunteer green keepers for having everything in top condition which was commented on very favourably by our visitors.
At the end of the day Ross Hardy the President of the District Bowling Committee presented the shield to M. Sargeant, Skip of the Moruya A team, which was donated by Jim Snow M.H.R. when was member for Eden-Monaro. Ross also congratulated Braidwood Bowling on presenting a great day. Moruya won the day with four wins plus 51 points, whilst Braidwood came 2nd with three wins plus 28 points with Malua Bay 3rd with 3 wins plus 22 points and the executive being 4th with 3 wins + 3 points.
Remember Bowlers are not old they just live longer.
