Palerang United Div 3 were missing 4 players and took on ANU at Kaleen with the help of some div 4 players. ANU managed to have several shots on goal early in the game but Maccie Whittick was on her game in goals and thwarted each attack. Palerang United slowly managed to claw back some possession and started to press the ANU defence with Nina Garcia making some strong runs forward. A see sawing game was played out for the final 20 minutes of the half with ANU managing to squeeze a goal in after some scrambling defence wasn’t quite cleared by Palerang United and ANU took a 1-0 lead into the halftime break. The ladies were pretty confident they could get back into the game as they grew in confidence. The next 20 minutes was a dominanting performance from Palerang United and were rewarded with some great lead up work from midfield to level the scores. Soon after Palerang United hit the lead with some energetic work in midfield from Tamika Murphy and Jaye Coble send the ball forward and poked into the goal. ANU lifted with only 10 minutes to go and threw everything at the Palerang United defence and with some neat play through the midfield found their striker who scored a cracking goal from 25 yards out to level the scores at 2-2. That’s where the game finished and the Palerang United ladies were pleased with the result and effort considering the players who were missing.

The Div 4 team also took on ANU and were pleased to be back at the same venue as Div 3 after a tough trip to Yass last week. An even contest was played out for the majority of the first half with Palerang United having some excellent chances on goal. Lyndsey Mendham and Nina Garcia were quick up front and piled a heap of pressure on the ANU goal with Nina unfortunately just missing wide with one shot on goal. Helen Davys Amber Mercer and Neridah McMinn were energetic in defence and consistently made some excellent choices in defence. Georgia Garcia was outstanding in the first half as sweeper clearing plenty of ball away from our goal. Callie Bolitho made some terrific runs through midfield and supplied the girls out wide with some quality ball. Kirsty Mendham and Julie Osarek played with determination and grit through midfield which provided some good possession at times. Late in the first half Nina Garcia came off injured with some knee damage and we hope she is ok and wish her a speedy recovery. The first half ended at 0-0 and Palerang United were pleased with their first half efforts. The second half was an entertaining affair with chances created on goals for both teams. Some excellent keeping at both ends was making it difficult for both attacks to get any significant advantage until a frustrated and unorthodox shot from outside the goalbox skewed from a to punt and squirted in the goal to hand ANU the lead. A tiring Palerang United went close on several occasions to level the scores but time ran out and ANU got the win 1-0. A great performance from a team who have struggled in the first couple of weeks and I am sure with a few more matches under their belt the results will start to come their way.
The ladies have next week off with it being a long weekend and will have their next games played at at Mawson against Weston Molonglo and Belwest on the 1st of May. Good Luck Ladies!!
