On Saturday the Braidwood Bowling Club’s pennant teams journeyed to Malua Bay for their return match against teams,that had defeated Braidwood on their own turf in the 1st round, now that Braidwood was only 4 points behind Tuross Heads in the 2016 pennant competition so we were in a desperate need for a good win.

The Braidwood boys really answered the challenge with an exceptional display of bowling on the coastal green when they defeated Malua Bay by 75 shots to 36 a margin of 39 shots winning all three rinks and the ends 39 to 24. These figures gave Braidwood all 10 points in the pennant competition bringing the progressive total to 62 points. Possum understands that Turros Heads received 5 &1/2 points in their game against Bodalla bring their total to 61 & ½ points so there is going to be immense pressure on all teams when Braidwood hosts Tomakin on the last round on 30th April & Tuross Heads hosts Malua Bay when ½ a point separates the two top teams.
The progressive score on the big board on Saturday was at 15 ends Braidwood led Malua Bay 14 to 8, at 30 ends 37 to 15, at 48 ends 62 to 26 & finished up at 63 ends with massive lead of 75 to 36. The individual games saw John Bunn leading on rink 4 with Kevin(Jungle) Lang, Barry Osmond & Damian Campbell-Davies in the most conservative score line of the day leading 5 to 4 at the 5th end, then being tied at 7 all at the 10th end, &12 all at the 16th, but being in front at the 21st end 16 to 14.
On rink 5 the team Gary Kiff as skip led Tom Watson, Gary Collard, & Steve Piper & they led 4 to 3 at the 5th end, 14 to 5 at the 10th end, & 26 to 6 on the 16th end & on this end they scored an 8 which the skip of Tuross team said he had never seen an 8 scored in 50 years of bowling. Our team finished in front 29 to 13 at the 21st end.
On rink 6 The team of Jonathan Bunn as skip with Nigel McGrath, Ant. Stanley, & Barry Backhouse had a runaway win leading 5 to 1 at the 5th end, 10 to 1 on the 10th end, 24 to 8 on the 16th end and 30 to 9 on the 21st end a really magnificent score for Braidwood.
Possum’s spies told him that all played good team games where if one player missed out on a good shot another player came up with the goods but I believe Steve Pipier had a Blinder.
On Saturday 30th April I would hope there is a big gallery of spectators to encourage our Bowlers on to win the Braidwood Bowling Clubs 1st pennant since the year 2000.
There has only been one championship game since the last report when in the 1st round of 2016 pairs Gary Collard & Tom Watson defeated Leroy & Damian Campbell-Davies in a good competitive game but one must admire Leroy to stick out 3 & 1/2 Hours of stiff competition when he is only 11 years old.
Remember bowlers are not old they just live longer.
