After 2 losses for the Bears, they were ready to get a win and turn the season around. The first 15 minutes was a tough forward battle with Lawrence Rea and Thomas Potter charging forward for the bears, giving Eddie Jenkins time to put a nice kick in for Sam McGlone to pick the ball up and score the first try of the game. Just before half time Gunning Captain put an illegal shoulder charge on our left second row Nick McArthur. With the Gunning captain getting sent to the bin for 10 minutes, this put the boys in a good attacking position with Eddie throwing a long ball to Sam McGlone with fast pace to score another try leading the Braidwood Community half time score board score 12-0.
The game started off as a strong second half with some great defence from the Bears centre, Harry Treloar and Lock, Paul Armitage. The Bears struck over the try line again with Harry Treloar getting the first try of the second half. With the Gunning captain coming back on from the sin bin, this gave Gunning good energy to get in 3 quick tries, one of them scored by the captain, Steve Teofilo. Gunning converted only 1 try, with the score now 16-14 to Braidwood. The Bears knew if they wanted to win they needed to stop making simple errors and that they did with a smooth back line getting the ball to flying winger Sam McGlone to get his 3rd try of the game releasing the pressure from the bears, with Jake Neddrie converting the try making the score now 22-14. With 10 minutes left, Harry Treloar carried 4 Gunning players 15 metres on his back, to score his second try of the day. A short kick off failing from Gunning which was picked up by Eddie Jenkens who palmed a few defenders to run 60 metres on a sprained ankle to score a thrilling try to finish the game with a win the Bears deserved.
It was a great day and the boys have some hard training this week before taking on top of the table Harden Hawks at Mclean oval in Harden this Saturday at 3:00pm.
