We had yet another glorious day for the Braidwood soccer starting a little late but never the less we started. A few injuries and late arrivals saw depleted numbers for all youth sides. Fewer players on the pitch meant an open game with Glory piling on the pressure on the Victory goal. Great goal keeping from Tom Pearce and defending from Isaac
Quattromini also Tyler Croxon kept the score at only 2-0 for Glory at half time. Second half was more even with a goal from each team leaving the final score 3-1 to Glory.
Roar versed Jets with Roar winning 4-2 same as the other youth team, numbers were down on both sides as well, but still an excellent game by both teams
The under 11’s saw Avengers take on the Thunderbolts it was a very competitive game, however Avengers won on the day 5-0 .The star for the Thunderbolts was our goalie Riley . Great offense from Avengers front line by Bonnie, Cruz, Nelson and Isabella.
Freedom Fighters took on Young Justice seeing Young Justice the winners on the day with a 7-4 win a great defensive game by the Freedom Fighters with Riley Hazleton awesome in goal good defence by William Mortimer and Francine Magcino. Top runs by Angus McPhail and Matilda Jeffery for Young Justice.
The under 8’s were next up with Sharks versing Turtles (score 2-0) with the Sharks winning that game, there was great participation from both teams with a goal in the first half and the second just before the final whistle. Special mention to best and fairest Sy Jason for the Sharks and Reegan Saunders for the Turtles.
The Dolphins took on the Seals going down 0-1, but seeing a very tight game from both sides. With Orlando scoring the first and only goal, well done guys it was a great game by both sides
UNDER 12S
The Palerang under 12’s played in Canberra that afternoon Outstanding effort once again from the Palerang under 12’s, first half showed some nervousness from our side as we knew that Monaro is a quality team and the first fifteen minutes didn’t prove our thoughts incorrect. Monaro showed great skill dominating our half at all times early in the game and Palerang struggled to find their feet, confidence and coordination however with a first goal scored by Palerang in the first half reflecting the score 1-0 was the start of our confidence coming back to life and in the second half this grew with great strength.
Our defence was exceptional from the mid and back lines with the never give up attitude really paying off in these core areas. The front line really found their mojo in the second half also working excellent together and providing the support and team work with each other that you would see in a professional squad providing a 6-1 win to Palerang.
Our defence lines were very busy and maintained strength and determination relentlessly throughout the entire the game, our Goalies saved, captured and delivered the ball back into the field brilliantly.
Every player shined today for Palerang and I can honestly say that there was not one player that didn’t contribute 110% effort.
This was a tough and challenging game for us guys today and you should all be very proud of yourselves as you all performed outstanding.
Keep up the great work Palerang U12’s
UNDER 14 GIRLS
The Palerang Pinks under 14’s took to the field in Braidwood with only 9 players and NO SUBS against Majura FC in their Div 2 comp that’s right! Only 9 wonderful girls who went on the field with all the odds stacked against them.
They were down 2/0 after just ten minutes into the game, then they came thrashing their way back to end the game with a 3 all draw. These girls came together like you wouldn't believe ….. we had two injured girls out for weeks (Georgia Grant and Ellie Weaver) also having Abby Birkett who was away competing in a National Horse event and other players away as well ... Every one of these nine girls played there absolute hearts out, making us burst with enormous pride, our goalie Lyndsey Medham took a pounding from the opposition but continued to stay at her post stopping goal after goal attempt, when she could no longer even kick the ball she could only throw it back out to play.
Lyla Crosbie scored all the 3 goals for the Pinks (well done our little bullet) a “MASSIVE” Thank you to Willough, Tashani, Tess, Jorja, Lyla, Jarrah, Ella, Crystal, and Lyndsey. You girls all proved that with just sheer determination and guts you can achieve whatever you want, you girls continue to do us so proud week after week year after year
UNDER 15 BOYS
The under 15 boys played in Braidwood against Gungahlin on Saturday with Palerang boys winning against Gungahlin 7/3. The Palerang boys played with only 11 on the field and no subs. We saw poor Tom Pearce taken off towards the end of the game with a badly hurt foot taking the boys down to 10 players. The Palerang boys dominated the first half of the game seeing the Gungahlin boys coming back strong in the second half, but the boys held strong anyone could see the boys were absolutely exhausted but continued as hard as they could , the goals scorers for Palerang were Harry Jeffery 3 Ben Merriman 2, Lachlan Usher 1 and Callum Doyle 1
Also a Huge Thank you to Karen and Chris Nelson for your wonderful smooth running of the canteen. Those yummy egg and bacon rolls make getting up early so worth it.
Also a big Thanks to our refs Nick and Murray.
All in all a great day of Soccer once again
See you all Saturday!
