Palerang United started off slowly as Weston controlled plenty of possession however the Palerang United’s defence was solid and not much came of Weston’s domination of the ball. Some excellent patience in defence from Palerang United started to frustrate the Weston Molonglo team as some loose passes from Weston started to see the possession flow even up.
Tristan Neate and Mitch Moon started to threaten the Weston goal midway through the first half but just as Palerang United took more control of the game a serious knee injury to midfielder Ben Pritchard upset the rhythm of Palerang United’s game and halftime saw a 0-0 scoreline.
The second half was a lot more open with Troy Clark, Keith Acheson, Ian Rayer and Josh Collier stopping Weston’s advances on our goal with relative ease but started to offer some good ball through our young midfield. Mitch Roberts, Tristan Neate, Angus Bunn and Tim Corcoran all started to make some excellent tackles and create some quality ball to Mitch Moon and Thomas Roberts up front. It was however Andrew Crisp from a clearance kick from goal that set up the first goal of the game. Andrew punted the ball high and long and Mitch Roberts flicked the ball on for Mitch Moon to race away and slot in an excellent finish on goal past the outstretched hand of the Weston keeper.
Palerang United were definitely excited to hit the lead and the tempo of the game lifted to a busier pace as Weston tried to equalise. Weston managed to get more ball for the next 20 minutes but were starting to make more errors and the counter attacking style of Palerang United certainly upset Weston Molonglo’s approach to the game. Weston managed to score with about 15 minutes to go after a clearance kick from a corner didn’t reach its desired target which was supposed to be much further from Palerang United’s goal and an eager strike on the ball squirted passed Andrew Crisp in goal to get the equaliser. The last 15 minutes was frantic with both teams creating ample chances on goal but with no luck. Final score was 1-1 and probably a fair result however missed opportunities can be costly.
Next week the men are back home to take on ANU Orange with a kick off at 1pm. Good Luck Fellas!
