But in front of a vocal home crowd it was Boorowa who made the most of some good field position crossing the try line first.
The Bears didn't drop their heads & two minutes later squared the game up with a Nate Wells short ball on to a steam rolling Sammy Welch who beat the cover defence to score.
Both sides lifted the intensity with some great bone rattling defence. The Bears didn't back down & Dylan Rech put through a kick that Brad Woods beat the Rovers too scoring under the posts going ahead 10-6.
That try opened the flood gates with the Bears running in three more tries in 15 minutes on the back of great go forward. The boys ran into the sheds at halftime in front 28-6.
Boorowa lifted in the second half and had all the ball but the Bears showed great defence tackling on their own line for numerous repeat sets.
The Rovers couldn't break through and when the Bears finally got the ball they capitalised with Sam McGlone catching the Rovers markers sleeping scoring from dummy half.
More great field position lead to Paul Armitage diving over putting the Bears up 40-6. That try was backed up immediately with Sam McGlone adding to his try scoring tally off a nice backline move.
Boorowa grabbed a consolation try on the bell with the final score 44-12.
Coach Marty Edwards would be happy with the performance especially with their defence in the second half. The Bears pack never stopped working providing a great platform for the outside backs.
This Saturday the Bears are back home to face newcomers the North Canberra Bears. North Canberra's squad is littered with Canberra Raiders Cup experience including Canberra representative half Chris Thorley so it will be a great marker to see how our Bears are travelling.
Again we have a local double header at the Rec with Palarang United kicking off against ANU at 1pm followed by the battle of the Bears at 3pm. Don your red & black & get down to support both sides.
