We will be governed by an all city oriented group of councillors, with no rural interests and no representation from us. In any case they have said they didn’t want to take us on, but forced would demand a string of dubious conditions. 

Financial investigations into the merger believe it will not be sustainable, which doesn’t bode well. 

It is very sad that our local member didn’t see fit to represent the great majority of old Tallaganda people who didn’t want to go with Queanbeyan or who just wanted to revert back to the old Tallaganda Shire area. 

If the member can’t represent out majority view then he is no good to us, and when the time comes I will campaign against him and the Premier for whom I have lost confidence completely. 

I wonder what thought was given to the negative effect this move has on social issues, such as loss of jobs and staff, the move against de-centralisation, huge travelling costs, no community of interest, no representation etc.? 

The “Fit for the Future” report was quite frankly, a nonsense. Small councils can be just as efficient as large councils if they live within their means and are not burdened by State government impositions like rate pegging. 

Amalgamations took place 12 years ago and were going to fix everything. They didn’t, and in fact made things worse in many cases.
