The Under 6’s and Under 8’s had a combined game of touch, which showed the talent that is coming through the ranks. The Under 10’s and 12’s also had a game of modified rugby where all the players had a great run around.
Next up was the landing of the Snowy Hydro South Care Helicopter, where young Albert Hazell emerged from the cabin after winning the raffle of a free ride. Then it was on to the main attraction of the day which was a special invitation game of rugby between the Braidwood Redbacks Senior Team and a team of Golden Oldies made up of old Redbacks, with a few ring-ins. Owen Finnegan, ex-Brumby and Wallabies player came and played for the Golden Oldies, as did a number of other players, which made for an entertaining very competitive game.
The Rugby Club then moved up to the Services Club for dinner and presentations. First up were the juniors, where the following awards were given out.
Under 8’s - Best and Fairest: Jonathon Coe, Coaches Award: Robbie Watson
Under 10’s - Best and Fairest: Callum Doyle, Coaches Award: Lachlan Usher
Under 12’s - Best and Fairest: Harry Shoemark, Coaches Award: Blake Doherty.
It should also be noted that the Under 10’s team also went through the season undefeated, which saw all members of the team receive a medal.
The specially ordered jumpers from the invitational game were then auctioned to raise money for the SouthCare Helicopter. Thanks also to Braidwood Community Bank which contributed to the cost of the jumpers, which allowed more money to be raised. Other items, such as the Torpedo and the Prawns (thanks Gordon family) were also auctioned with over $8,000 being raised on the night.
The crowd then moved into the hall for the Seniors presentation, which saw a very entertaining speech from Owen Finnegan and the awards for the seniors being presented. The night then continued with the entertaining “Lumpy Underdaks” keeping everyone dancing to the early hours of the evening.
All in all it was a great finish to the Redbacks season, for juniors, seniors and golden oldies. The Redbacks would like to thank the Braidwood Community for all their support this season, especially our sponsors who are the following:-
