Braidwood and Villages Tourism is supporting a grant application in an attempt to gain funding to construct a concrete footpath, 1.5m wide, along Coronation Ave, on the northern side, extending from Ryrie St to Victory St opposite the club carpark.

The proposed path is some 450m long with pram ramps at each end, would have two seats along its length and would include overhead solar stand-alone LED lights. The committee believes this shared pathway is long overdue. There have been offers of support from various local businesses and community groups. The potential also exists for Braidwood Central School student involvement

It is satisfying to note that since the amalgamation our new council executive and the State Government appear keen to further increase our recognition as a popular heritage village. The quality of our infrastructure is lacking and we all know that there is much to be done, however, Braidwood and Villages Tourism believes this project is worth following through with.

The safety of school children walking to the club for dance lessons and sporting activities is of major concern for parents and teachers. Members of the public are also being sensible and walking rather than drinking and driving. The entire community and visitors, including the disabled and elderly, mums and strollers and children with parents would all benefit from a sensible concrete footpath leading to the club. It is worth noting that the Braidwood Servicemen’s Club and its wide range of facilities is a major focus point of activities within our community. Walking along Coronation avenue competing with cars is not for the faint hearted.
