Neoni Lee Banks, 42, appeared "choked up" and made signs around her throat after police were called to the couple's Kings Highway property about 3am on August 9, 2015, the NSW District Court was told.

A police officer gave evidence she had followed the sound of groans when she arrived at the house and found Ms Banks' partner kneeling at a bed with a wound to his back.

"I had no choice," the court heard Ms Banks had said.

She was charged over the shooting and faced a jury trial before Judge Chris Hoy in Queanbeyan this month.

The court was told her partner told police the pair had fought, and he had been asleep in the spare room, when he heard noises.

He left the room and saw Banks with one of their guns. He allegedly told her if she wanted to shoot him, she'd have to shoot him in the back, before he turned around. 

The trial heard he later told his mother he had earlier put his hands around Banks' neck to "lift" her out of the room after the pair argued about whether he had visited dating sites.

Photos tendered to the court showed holes in the walls of the house from a bullet that had travelled through the master bedroom and into their child's bedroom.

A jury found Ms Banks not guilty of shooting at a person with attempt to murder and a back-up charge of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

An offence of using an unauthorised firearm was dismissed.
