‘Golf Club’s Troubles’

Braidwood Golf Club is not the only one to strike its share of trouble. Up Walcha way a whole heap of it has fallen upon the local club. Some months back Council put on a gang; of unemployed relief labourers to clear a big slice of the recreation reserve, termed the 'aerodrome site. ' This site included a big portion of the club's links, but a protest did not prevent the 'hazards' disappearing.  The course, however, still remained one of the best in the north, and the club decided to continue, as the possibility of the area being needed as a landing ground for many years were not disturbing. Later, when rumours of further work raised the ire of club officials, the Council was asked by letter if it intended to recommence clearing operations on the site. It replied that it was the intention to start more clearing right away. This will mean an outlay of about £700 for the purchase of new land, on which to erect a new course.  A new club house, recently erected, will also have to be transferred

The following were the scores in the Associates' nine-hole stroke handicap on Wednesday: Mrs. G. H. Clout, 63-22 31; Miss N. Nomchong, 62-20 32; Miss R Taffaha, 70-35 34; Mrs. F. Wright, 71-36 35; Miss M. Wright, 73-36 37; Mrs. Irwin, 59-20 39; Mrs. Jaggers, 65-24 41; Mrs. Young, 74-30 44; Miss D. Nomchong, 75-30 45; Miss S. Taffaha, 68-22 46.

The new ring at the Showground was finally pegged out on Saturday afternoon last by Mr. T. Keig, in the presence of a number of the committee. Some idea of its extent may be gauged when it is mentioned that on the Goulburn road side it will run through the garden-plot in front of the present pavilion. It will also include a big pine tree which has been used as a shade in past years.  The fate of this old warrior stands in abeyance. Suggestions have been made to have the lower limbs lopped, while others favour its removal altogether.

A ratepayer at the lower-end or Wallace St is nursing a big grouch against this paper because it said that the Municipality was in a better condition now than it has ever been. He says, his street is a disgrace, and complains that big boulders are lying about, while there is a creek in the street in front o£ his house. As we rarely have any occasion to go through 'the Cutting,' we are not in a position to say how far his complaint is justified, but we certainly will go along that way, to the alleged creek, at any rate, when the duck shooting season opens. The old chap reckons he has been paying rates for over 30 years, but will pay no more until some work is done in front of his place.

Alleged to have called Constable Pinkerton, of Grafton, an 'imitation copper,' George Paterson, of Bacon St, Grafton, was fined £4/10/-, with 14/- court costs, by Mr. J. McElroy, P.M., in the Grafton Police Court, for using insulting language.  

The Government has decided to set aside £2000 for expenditure on Bermagui and for the encouragement of big game fishing there. The money will be  spent on extending the present accommodation for launches

The new Nurses' Award will result in an additional expenditure of £60 a year for salaries at the Braidwood Hospital. The matron's salary now goes to £156 from £120 a year, while the sister will receive £2/11/6 per week. These salaries operate as from 17th July last.
