Glenys and Ross Brown went to check their Commercial Stock in preparation for sale, they were expecting to see more than a few scrappy one tooth's. Over 80 of their stock had been stolen while out to pasture between July and September. Glenys believes that she has lost about 45 wethers and 35 ewes pregnant in lamb, worth between $120 and $200 each. She estimates that the value of stock stolen was over $10,000.

They knew when to take them... it's somebody who's been watching my place
- Glenys Brown
The loss was a complete shock to the Browns when Glenys noticed it about two weeks ago. Glenys says Ross just stood there and said “where have they gone?” The stock had been grazing at the back of the 12,000 acre property, part of which is leased. Fences around the paddocks were all in order, and the 100mm of rain since the theft means the Browns have no way of determining where the stock were taken from.
The scale of the loss indicates that the thieves had planned the operation carefully. Glenys said “they knew when to take them… it’s somebody who’s been watching my place.” To carry out a robbery of this scale, the thieves must have been equipped with a truck and portable sheep runs. Tags will have been removed to allow for on-sale.
Glenys says there were other indications that the thieves knew what they were doing, saying that the cream of the paddock had been taken and the smaller scrappier stock left.
The loss has been reported to the police.
