Gladys Berejiklian was just another passenger as she rode the 205 bus from Willoughby into work on Monday.
She got on at Northbridge about 7.10am amid a crush of TV cameras and commuters.
No security guards nor press secretaries accompanied her.
Passengers congratulated the incoming Premier and wished her well. Many seemed familiar with her.
Some were overheard saying how they had met her previously and how "nice she is".
Ms Berejiklian's habit of catching the bus into work while she was transport minister was well known.
But she has continued the practice most mornings of her ministerial career despite having access to a driver.
Friends deny it's a conscious attempt to seem in touch and note she does not document her journeys like other MPs.
"She just does these things," friend and federal Liberal MP Trent Zimmerman said.
But on Monday three network television cameras were waiting for her to tap on.
Ms Berejiklian said she would rather not do any interviews.
She alighted at the 205's stop at Bridge Street in the CBD and walked off in the direction of Macquarie Street in conversation with one of her constituents.
She is expected to become Premier unopposed when the Liberal party room convenes at 10am following Mike Baird's shock resignation last Thursday.
How the day's events will unfold
● The Liberal party room will convene for a meeting at 10am on Monday.
● Mike Baird will make his farewell address as Premier to MPs and declare the party's leadership positions vacant and call for contenders to self-nominate.
● Gladys Berejiklian is expected to nominate unopposed for the party leadership and therefore become NSW's next Premier. Current Finance Minister Dominic Perrottet is expected to nominate unopposed to become the party's deputy leader.
● Ms Berejiklian will assume chair of the meeting and appear before the Liberal party room for the first time as its leader.
● Ms Berejiklian will be sworn in as the 45th Premier of NSW on Monday afternoon.
● The full cabinet of the Berejiklian government will be announced at a later time.
