The races will be held down Gillamatong Lane (adjacent to the sale yards) on Sunday May 7 and there will be a race category for everyone – under 8 years, 8-11 years, 12-15 years, Open and Ladies. Entry fees will remain at $5 for all the age racing categories
This year there will again be a parade for “traditional” billy carts. These carts can of course enter in the various race categories but carts must have rope steering to be part of the parade.
So all you youngsters, and young at heart, it is now time to start designing and building a billy cart so that you can participate in what will be a challenging and fun event.
For “year age categories” billy carts need to have maximum dimensions of 1.2metres wide x 2 metres long, 4 pneumatic or solid tyre wheels no larger than 315mm, 2 axles minimum wheel spacing 400mm, the maximum weight of billy cart without driver is 70kg.
For all other categories carts need to have 4 pneumatic or solid tyre wheels.
All carts need to have a workable braking mechanism.
The same cart can only be used by one driver in each category.
There will be cash prizes for winners of age/open categories and a bike to be won by age group entrants.
Race details can be found at www.braidwoodbillycarts.wordpress.com
So mark the date and start working out your strategy as the big day approaches!
