Braidwood Black Widows, Tuggeranong Vikings, Uni North Owls, Royals, Gungahlin Eagles and Goulburn Flirty Reds.
The Goulburn women had only been training together for a couple of weeks and most are relatively new to the full contact sport. Most if not all had played touch and were keen to give the game a go.
The competition on Saturday was a three team per pool format, with Goulburn and Gungahlin Eagles first to take the field. The games ran for 10 minutes a half played on the full size field.
Goulburn was a little short on for players and a call went out over Facebook and over the public address system for any players willing to fill in.
There was no shortage of volunteers such was the camaraderie of the players from the other teams, keen to encourage the Goulburn girls to get involved and enjoy themselves.
The Eagles were first to score, with a long run down the side of the field to score out wide, but their try went unconverted. The Flirty Reds answered back a little over a minute later and this time the try was converted putting the Reds ahead seven points to five.
Coach Jeff Caldwell encouraged the Flirty Reds to keep pushing forward when in possession and not run sideways.
In the second half Gungahlin crossed the line twice but both their tries went unconverted.
In Goulburn’s next game they faced Royals and were glad of the additional support from players of visiting teams. The Reds already had one player hobbled by an injury and a second player twisted awkwardly, needing an ice pack on her knee.
Referees controlling the games showed obvious leniency toward the new players who were trying to understand the rules and on several occasions instructed the women on how they should make a play then allowed play to continue without penalty.
The grand final for the day was between Uni North Owls and Royals and it resulted 10 points to seven win to the Owls.
The third and fourth place playoff resulted in a convincing win to Tuggeranong Vikings 49 to Gungahlin Eagles who were left scoreless.
Playing off for fifth and sixth the Braidwood Black Widows, defeated Goulburn 15 to nil, in an exciting game.
