Brothers Henry Irwin Crandell and Richard Crandell grew up with nine siblings in a slab hut between Majors Creek and Long Flat.
Their cousins Christopher and Stanley Crandell were just eighteen when they enlisted to fight. Christopher’s parents refused to give permission to enlist, so he obtained it from a brother ten years his senior. He was killed in action aged just 19.
One commemoration will be delivered by the great-grandson of Henry Irwin Crandell.
