Palerang took to the field on the warm Sunday afternoon looking for a challenge which Narrabundah provided. The game kicked off at a fast pace with both sides pushing hard early. It was evident even in the opening minutes the game was going to be close. Palerang pressed hard and created the first goal through Emily Malone’s powerful boot.
The speedy encounter continued with Narrabundah returning quickly with a great goal, levelling the scores. Both teams fought hard even as the pace slowed and much of the possession was in the middle part of the field. Solid defence from Millia Trindall, Kelly Scown, Amber Mercer and Georgia Garcia prevented the Narrabundah forwards from breaking through, while the Narrabundah goalkeeper shut down every chance created by Palerang’s forwards Tamika Murphy, Emily Hanns and Taylia Mercer. The score at half time was 1-1.
The second half saw the grinding game continue and Palerang created some early chances. With momentum switching a little, Narrabundah had a few decent shots on which were saved well by Callie Bolitho and Millia Trindall, before the game returned to the tight battle in the centre of the field. Strong runs and blocking stops from Palerang’s midfielders Lucy McKeown, Neridah McMinn, Jemma Dale, Emily Malone and Helen Davys kept the game close.
As the game drew to a close, Palerang began to absolutely dominate, creating multiple chances in front. Consecutive free kicks given to Palerang by a frustrated and tiring Narrabundah but their exceptional goalkeeper pushed both away. Emily Malone had a solid crack, a ball destined for the goal only to be miraculously saved by the Narrabundah keeper. Emily Hanns having another strong shot which the keeper saved brilliantly, and two corners to finish the game, the final score was 1-1. Palerang certainly deserved another goal but the final score was reflective of the tough even match.
Next game for Palerang is against Narrabundah A on April 30 at 12pm out in Calwell.
