First up, on Friday July 28 you can experience a field trip investigating native truffles for $40. To book, contact Braidwood Central School directly.
The weekend then kicks into life with the third annual mid-winter Truffle Central event to be held on Saturday July 29.
The Braidwood Central School gymnasium will house the day’s truffled food expo and farmers market, and it will be featuring lots of local produce.
Starting from 8am, Braidwood Farmers Market, Garlicious® Grown, Tarago Truffles and Wynlen House will all be in there.
In the food hall you will find delicacies to eat and drink, all prepared by the school’s students and their school P&C.
Chef Christian Hauberg will travel to Braidwood to work with students and produce a range of truffle delicacies. The results will be available to purchase for breakfast, brunch and lunch on the Saturday.
There will be judging of an exciting truffled dessert competition and the finished creations will be auctioned off.
They will also be holding a competition to guess the truffle’s weight.
The Upper Shoalhaven Land Care group will be running native bee and pollination workshops in the TLS from 8.45am to 3.30pm.
Also participating in the event, local restaurants and cafes around town will be serving various dishes with a truffle theme.
The whole weekend has been made possible thanks to the generous donation of black truffles – tuber melanosporum – grown by the Marshall family at Terra Preta Truffles just outside Braidwood.
Terra Preta Truffles took out the prestigious Gold Award for Champion Australian Fresh Produce – Truffles, in 2016, as well as the coveted overall Champion Australian Produce in the Australian Good Food Awards.
Terra Preta Truffles export to Europe, Asia and the US. They will also host the Myco dignitaries who will be visiting for this special event.
Significantly, all the proceeds raised by Truffle Central will go to Braidwood Central School.
