After two solid wins against Jindabyne and Yass, the Redbacks travelled north east on Saturday to take on the table topping Crookwell. The Redbacks spent the first ten minutes in Crookwell’s half on attacking raids up the centre of the field. Unfortunately with their first opportunity to get ball in hand, Crookwell broke through the Redbacks defensive line and scored the first points under the post.

The Redbacks then lost outside centre Will Northcott with a corked thigh which somewhat disrupted the Redback’s game plan. In a first half where Braidwood had more of the procession, Crookwell managed to score three more tries taking a 28 to nil lead into half time. The second half saw much the same as the first with the Redback’s enjoying plenty of procession but unable to break the string Crookwell defensive line to convert procession into points. Crookwell on the other hand where able to continuously take advantage of the redbacks willingness to throw the ball around and scored multiple tries to their speedy backs from well within their own half. In a half where Braidwood lost both Billy Hatzis and Mitchell Gough to injury, the only real highlights for the Redbacks came in their scrum with the tight five holding their own against the much bigger Crookwell pack and the tireless defence from Number 8 Tim Moffitt. Best and Fairest, 3 points to Tim Moffitt, 2 points to Nick Roberts and one point to Mitch Gough. Players player went to Cade Graf.
Next weekend the Redbacks head to Bungendore for a Friday night game kicking off at 6:30. It would be great to see as many Redback supporters as possible cheering on the boys in an attempt to win back the Palerang Shield.
