The annual apple grafting workshop led by Gary Sully will once again return for an informative and unique experience.

Held among the rolling hills of the Old Cheese Factory, the sessions will include basic techniques of grafting, a how-to guide to collect and store bud wood and aftercare of grafted trees.

Mr Sully said the workshop, now running in its sixth year, was for everyone.

“You can learn  a lot even if you’ve grafted before,” he said. “Most people are new to it and like the idea of doing it. Some people have gone on and grafted whole orchards which has been good.”

Grafting can be used to propagate trees, for sculptural or artistic purposes and to repair damage. Because of the gold rush, he said the Braidwood region is home to many species of endangered trees.

Apple rootstock and scions from local heritage trees will also be provided.

The first workshop will run from 9am to noon, the second from 2- 4pm on August 12. Tickets are $110 each.
