John Talbot has devoted his time to community organisations for years but felt standing for local government was a chance to contribute more actively.

The Jerrabomberra resident holds a degree in economics, a graduate diploma in education, Masters in Business Administration and was formerly an assistant secretary in the Department of Agriculture.
Mr Talbot feels this background means he is well equipped for a role on the council.
"It’s a very important time for our region, continuing to bring our communities together and yet still encouraging and promoting diversity,” he said.
“Our new council needs people with experience and the relevant skills to be able to achieve this.”
Mr Talbot is standing as part of Tim Overall’s Group A ticket and isn’t shy about sharing his views on the former mayor.
“Queanbeyan’s been in very good hands under the leadership of Tim Overall, and I’m standing with Tim because I’ve seen all he’s achieved and I believe in his vision and commitment to our now even wider area of Queanbeyan-Palerang.”
Mr Talbot is a long-time Meals on Wheels volunteer and serves as vice- president of the organisation’s management committee.
He is a Jerrabomberra Tennis Club committee member and Rotarian.
The keen sportsman will advocate for the further development of sports facilities in the council area.
Mr Talbot wants to give youth more of a say through a dedicated Youth Council as well as work to promote thriving business in the district.
