Palerang began the match full of nerves, which showed in their football. There were a few rushed kicks which Belwest used to their advantage and took a few early shots on goal. Palerang’s keeper saved them with ease, however, as the nerves faded.
When fully focused, the Palerang side began to dominate but their shots at goal were always just stopped. Palerang wore down Belwest however, and were dominant the whole half. The half time score was 0-0.
With both teams desperate to score the first few minutes of the second half were even. Then Emily Malone got a break away and scored Palerang’s first goal. Palerang lifted their heads and only a few moments later, a free kick was taken by Georgia Garcia who placed the ball right in the top left corner.
The score was 2-0 to Palerang, who kept control of the entire half.
With 15 minutes to go, Emily Malone scored another goal to make the scores 3-0. Belwest played hard but Palerang were too classy and Belwest only ended up with a few shots on goal all half.
As the final whistle blew, Palerang cheered and clapped, arms raised, before graciously congratulating the opposition on what was a quality match of football. With a big sideline crowd, they celebrated another strong season.
Thank you to all the supporters who came out to watch, especially to those few who made the trip to every game. Thanks to the coach Mark Roberts for all his wonderful work with the women, often refereeing the matches while coaching. Congratulations to Palerang United and best of luck for next season.
