An onsite meeting at the disputed Police Paddock will take place at 10:30am on Tuesday. A comissioner from the Land and Environment Court will hear from parties involved in the debate.
Samowill Pty Ltd, the family company that owns the land, has had several development application overturned by the Heritage Council on grounds that the site is of exceptional archaeological significance.
The Office of Environment and Heritage rejected the most recent application, lodged in 2014, on April 28, 2016. They ruled against the DA citing the site’s “exceptional historical significance”.
Samowill Pty Ltd took the matter to the Land and Environment Court, which set out to facilitate a negotiation process between the parties: in favour of the development, Samowill; and opposed to the development, the Heritage Council.
A six month conciliation process was terminated by the court in June, after it was satisfied parties were not close to reaching an agreement.
After the onsite meeting, parties present will adjourn to the Batemans Bay Local Court for a hearing.
