The Spiderlings had their first game of the day against the Bay Boars, the result didn't go their way but it was the girl's first game of rugby together as a team and they played with gutsy determination.
The Spiderlings captured a feel for what the game consisted of and were ready to take on the FSC Falcons in their second game of the day.
With team work, Sarah Walker pushed through the Falcons defensive line and scored for Braidwood. The team and spectators were extremely excited and very proud of all the girls for this achievement.
The Spiderlings then took on Narooma, a well knit team, who unfortunately the Spiderlings were not able to get on top of.
The girls thoroughly enjoyed their first 7s gala day of union together and improved immensely over the day. The Spiderlings are definitely on their way to being something very special!
The Black Widows were extremely keen to get back out on the field after quite a long break of no football.
Their first hit out was against Gungahlin Eagles. Hayley Quill and Matilda Corby both scored for the Black Widows but unfortunately it wasn’t enough to put them on top of the four tries from Gungahlin. They treated this as “dusting off the cobwebs” and were ready to take on the Viqueens in their second match. The Viqueens had some strong players who the Black Widows weren’t quite able to take down, but they were able to get one try across the line.
Goulburn were the Black Widow’s next match, which showed some aggression and determination to come out with a win.
With team work and support, Matilda Corby was able reach and place the ball over the try line for Braidwood. In the first half, Hayley Quill also found space and broke through the defensive line scoring again for the Black Widows. But in the end it just wasn’t enough for the result the Black Widows were hoping for against Goulburn.
The Black Widows last game of the day was against ADFA.
Matilda Corby scored early in the first half and kicked the conversion making the score 7 nil. The Black Widows were playing very well but in the last 2 mins of the first half an ADFA player was injured. She was stabilised on the field but couldn’t be moved until further observation. The second half was then cancelled meaning the Black Widows won their last game, 7-nil!
