I was honoured to be elected by my fellow councillors at an extraordinary meeting of Council on September 20 and will serve a two-year term until September 2019. I am delighted that Trevor Hicks will serve as Deputy Mayor of Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council for the next 12 months. I look forward to working with Trevor and our fellow councillors for the benefit of all in our local government area.

The next major steps for the council are to develop a delivery program, which is our contract with the community for the three year term. The program lists the projects the council intends to undertake in the three-year term in its efforts to meet the community’s aspirations.
The delivery program will be produced in line with a draft Community Strategic Plan. The CSP will be developed using the feedback that the community has given us over the last year. The CSP a 10-year aspirational plan and the delivery program is how the council intends to begin achieving those aspirations during this term. Both these documents will be drafted and the community will be invited to make comment before adoption.
Our first ordinary meeting will be held in Bungendore on September 27. At this meeting, the council will decide on the ongoing meeting schedule and consider a number of reports about the redevelopment of Queanbeyan’s CBD, including the proposed council head office and Smart Hub project. The tender for the replacement of Back Creek Bridge on Cooma Road, Braidwood will also be presented for consideration.
