Mr McGrath joined the Charleyong brigade in 1972 and has been a Senior Deputy Captain since 1992.
Mr Hockey joined the Braidwood brigade in 1981 and is currently Deputy Captan of the Bombay brigade. Due to his illness, his award was collected by his daughter.
NSW Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS) Deputy Commissioner Rob Rogers presented National and Long Service Medals to a group of 23 volunteers who have amassed an impressive 437 years of service between them.
“This significant commitment demonstrates that the tradition of volunteering is thriving in this region,” Superintendent Tim Carroll said.
“Each of these men and women provide a vital service to their community, whether they’re fighting bush fires, attending road accidents or assisting during storms or floods.
“It is an honour to work with and reflect upon the outstanding achievements of these members.”
Superintendent Carroll said the National and Long Service Medal recipients demonstrated the same selfless commitment shown by all NSW RFS volunteers.
“Our volunteers hard work and professionalism doesn’t go unnoticed and this is a great opportunity for the broader community to express their gratitude and say thank you,” said Superintendent Carroll.
“I would like to take this time to praise all our volunteers for their ongoing efforts each and every day, particularly when dealing with emergencies here in the Lake George area.”
