We are very proud that one of our members, Marilyn Carle, received the Joan O’Brien Award for excellence by an individual in Floral Art at the Garden Clubs of Australia National Convention held in Ulladulla last week.
Marilyn has been a fully qualified florist for 24 years, managing various florist shops and working at the Governor General’s Residence and Parliament House. During this time she has been an active member of the Floral Art Guild of ACT. She has both participated in, and been involved in the planning of, many Floral Art competitions, Horticultural and Agricultural Shows, Floriade, the ACT Flower Club, Lanyon Homestead Fair, and flower displays for many churches, the Royal Canberra Show, the ACT Quilters Guild, the Embroidery Guild ACT, and the Centenary of ACT.
Marilyn was the President of the Floral Art Guild for 6 years, and as President of Australian Floral Art Association from 2003-2006 represented Australia in Japan at the World Seminar and World AGM. She has also attained the Australian Floral Art Judges qualification which has enabled her to carry out judging at Horticultural and Agricultural Shows in Australia, the Floral Art Guild 40th Anniversary Seminar, and Flower Shows. She has also judged on the International stage including the Pakistan World AFAA Seminar.
Next month the Club will hold its annual Christmas party and then will take a short break over summer, before resuming meetings in February. In 2018 we are planning trips to local gardens and those further afield, and talks by acclaimed gardeners and members. New members are always welcome. Enquiries to Sue Murray: 4842 2381.
