“Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council has today clarified the purpose of its decision made at the November 22 meeting about the draft master plan for Ryrie Park, Braidwood.

“Following concerns raised by some sections of the community regarding perceptions of a large scale skate facility in Ryrie Park, Councillors moved to make clear an alternative site would be explored in Braidwood.

“However as indicated in the draft concept plan for Ryrie Park north, a hard surface playing area with skate elements is proposed near the pool.

“Staff briefed councillors on the intentions of the draft master plan and the scale of the skate park elements.

“Staff explained that the draft master plan did not include a full skate park with large amounts of concrete, however was designed to allow skaters to enjoy the park alongside other park users.

“Councillors will consider the Braidwood CBD/Ryrie Park Draft Master Plan options at a workshop in early February 2018.

“The proposal to be put before councillors includes recommendations for an intergenerational play space designed to cater for the whole family.

“Today’s play spaces need to be inclusive and allow for all abilities as well as older family members.

“An intergenerational play space in Ryrie Park could include equipment and landscaping suitable for toddlers and progress through the ages to include a youth precinct, picnic and BBQ facilities and could potentially include skateable elements.

“Council staff will continue to investigate locations for a dedicated skate park in Braidwood.”
