Shortly after 3:40pm, fire and rescue, police and ambulance staff were called to a fire in a home on Berthong Street, near the town's showgrounds.
The body of a man was found inside the property soon after the fire was put out.
He is yet to be officially identified. A NSW Police spokesman said the process might take some time given the damage caused by the fire.
Police officers established a crime scene and specialist investigators are examining the area today to determine the fire's cause.
NSW Police said on Sunday morning it would prepare a report for the coroner.
