The award for Natural Environment Policies, Planning and Decision Making was presented by the NSW Minister for the Environment, the Hon Robyn Parker MP, to David Anthony, Water Project Manager and Simon Holloway, Palerang Environmental Services Coordinator on Tuesday 4 December 2012 at a ceremony held at Darling Harbour.
The Palerang Council / Murray Darling Basin Water Sustainability Snapshot and Adaptation Planning project team included David Anthony, Dr Su Wild River, Professor Sara Beavis, Simon Holloway and Neville Plumb. The project was sponsored by the Palerang Council Climate Change Committee.
The project assessed the combined landscape impacts of water use, water quality risks, climate variability, climate change and population growth on the sustainable yield of key headwaters of the Murrumbidgee River. The analysis involved a wide range of data including more than 200 new maps of key parameters across the study area. The results were integrated into a policy discussion paper using future scenario assessments to help inform local and regional strategic planning and policy making. The project developed valuable innovative methodologies and policy options concerning sustainable water management in Western Palerang by using an integrated systems approach to reduce the uncertainties associated with this complex issue. The project team would like to thank all those that assisted or participated in the project. Further information on the project can be found on the Palerang Council website.
