MOUNTED GAMES: Early in July the NSW Mounted Games Association held its State Pairs Championships in Muswellbrook. Lucy Fanning defended her Under 18 title with partner Will Conn from Dural. Rosie Fanning and partner Trent McErlane of Oakville took out 4th place in their division.
This week Lucy is travelling to Wales to participate in the World Individual Mounted Games Championship held at the David Broome Equestrian Centre in Chepstow, Wales. Lucy is one of eight Australian riders competing in age divisions ranging from U14, U17 and Opens. Will is also competing in the U17s with Lucy.
Upon arrival, Lucy has five days to familiarise herself with her borrowed pony before the competition starts. The competition is held over four days with three sessions of heats, semi-finals in various grades and finals. There are 85 riders in her division from all over the world, with UK and European riders having the advantage of riding their own horses. However, Lucy is looking forward to competing as well as renewing and forming new friendships with fellow participants.
