Students entering university in 2017 can apply for scholarships of $5000 per annum offered by the Braidwood Community Bank, for up to two years of study. Since 2012 the local branch has awarded scholarships to five students from the Braidwood area.
Branch chairman, Shane Holness, said the scholarships were offered to help students achieve their dreams. The bank hoped the educational opportunities offered by the scholarships would transform the lives of local students.
Tim Callan and Keely Howard, 2016 recipients, have respectively pursued studies in the fields of agricultural science in Wagga Wagga and physiotherapy in Sydney. Mr Callan thanked the bank for its support, saying that, “without this scholarship, I would not have been able to pursue my career in the agricultural industry”.
Mr Holness said the scholarships were part of a wider community bank program, which has supported 450 students with $5.2 million in funding since 2007.
Provided academic performance is satisfactory, the students receive the scholarship for the first two years of their studies. It is intended to assist with the costs involved with study, such as relocation and the purchase of academic materials.
Applications for the scholarship open on December 1, and must be completed before January 27, to be assessed in early February. From November more information will be available at bendigobank.com.au/scholarships, or call the Braidwood Community Bank on 4842 1700.
