Forbes Gordon launched his book For the Love of Jack at Altenburg & Co on Saturday. The book, which features artwork by Robin Wallace-Crabbe and has been set by Phil Day, details the life of Gordon’s dog Jack, a Golden Labrador.
“It’s really written by our dog, in his words, actually,” Gordon said. Jack, who was given to the Gordons by their son eight years ago, details his feelings about their life together throughout the book. Gordon says the story is “really about our life together,” with his wife and cat.
Jack tells the story of his days with the cat, Forbes, and Jo Gordon, sharing joys, frustrations and puzzlements.
The idea had been in the back of Gordon’s mind for some time, but when he was on holidays recently he decided to write it down. He collaborated with Wallace-Crabbe and Day, both old friends and residents of the Braidwood District.
I just enjoy putting in words our dog's life, really.

Of the 100 copies of the novel printed, 65 were sold at the launch at Altenburg & Co on Saturday. Gordon and his wife will also keep one copy. The popularity of the story means they plan to reprint.
Gordon said he had loved the project. ”I just enjoy putting in words our dog’s life, really.”
He was grateful for all the help he has received, saying he “just wanted to thank Robin and Phil for all they’ve done”.
