Merry Christmas
This is my final column for the year and I want to take the opportunity to thank the members of our Local Representation Committee and all council staff for their efforts and contributions to the community this year.
Things have been proceeding well as we have transitioned into a new council. I am looking forward to next year with much work to be done and council elections to be held in September.
I wish everyone in the community a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year. I hope you all get a chance to have a break and enjoy a refreshing holiday period.
Water and road safety
Enjoy your family holiday, and stay safe, especially if spending time at the coast or around our rivers and lakes. This time of year is a busy time on the road, and many of us drive long distances for a holiday break.
The Monaro Local Area Command has urged us to drive safely during this time.
Water trunk main
The council performed a major cut-in to connect the new water trunk main to the Braidwood township water supply overnight on Monday, December 12.
The town is now on the new trunk main. This should mean that residents of Braidwood now experience a much more reliable water service.
There is a bit of tidying up to do to finalise the project, but the good news is that the new main is now in service. If you have any concerns, you should contact Ken Pearce at the Bungendore office.
Council shutdown
General council services in Braidwood, Bungendore and Queanbeyan are closed from noon on Friday, December 23, and re-open from 8.30am on Tuesday, January 3.
Waste, recycling and greenwaste collection services will not change, because Christmas and New Year’s Day both fall on a Sunday.
The Braidwood Memorial Swimming Pool will close on Christmas Day only.
