“When we built the playground it cost us $28 thousand and we didn’t have enough money for a shade sail” says Chris James of the Association.
The new sail will provide a cool and sunsafe environment for kids in the summer months, with an added and unexpected benefit of keeping the frost off in winter.
Mrs James is unsure exactly how many children live in Majors Creek, but she does know the Progress Association, which buys a Christmas gift for every child buys between 65 and 70 gifts come December. The Creek is growing though, with new families moving to the area bringing more children to the playground.
It’s certainly been a team effort though. The sail became reality with a donation from the Community Bank, a donation from a local, a discount from Batemans Bay’s 3D Sails and a local contractor who reduced the cost of the project by doing some of the work himself.
