Their target was the ivy and overgrowth on the eastern walls and fence.
This is only the start of what will eventually be a complete repair, restoration and upgrade. The much-loved Anglican Hall is Braidwood’s oldest public building – built in the 1850s, and no one can deny it needs a lot of TLC.
Over the years the Anglican Women’s Guild kept the Hall going but the Parish never had funds to spare. Even so the community continued to use the Hall – for weddings and wakes for birthdays and performances for shared laughing and weeping. The Folk Music Club is a regular user and for the past twelve years the Braidwood Aikido Dojo has trained there.
Now the Hall is ‘under new management’ – a Community Management Committee has been set up and its all systems go. They face a formidable task – grants will be applied for and a fundraising appeal will soon be launched. But there will also be a need for help ‘in-kind’ where people with special skills or simply with strong arms can give help and support.
Together Braidwood can achieve a new era for the old Anglican Hall.
