Mr Turnbull lost long ago the confidence of the Australian people. His mishandling – or, should I say, non handling – of a multitude of issues, such as energy, the NBN, and now the financial services industry, have maimed Australia's capacity to take advantage of its many natural resources, not the least being the energy of its people.

This energy of all kinds is being frittered away whilst the world moves forward and Mr Turnbull consumes himself, and ourselves, with a focus entirely on his own political survival.

Mr Turnbull's latest desperate attempt to head-off his imminent demise is his final capitulation to the long obvious need for an inquiry into the overly powerful Big Four Australian banks and other financial institutions.

However, even in this, he cannot be straight-forward and act in the interests of the people. No, Mr Turnbull has initiated a Royal Commission with terms of reference so limited that it would appear that even a farmer who has participated in Farm Debt Mediation would not be able to participate.

Mr Turnbull has provided the Big Four with exactly the Royal Commission for which they wished.

Hopefully, the National Party, which did so well to make Mr Turnbull act on at last instituting a Royal Commission, will also act to pressure the Liberal Party to modify the terms of reference of the Royal Commission in order to enable the Commissioner to do the work which needs to be done.

In any event, it is clear that Mr Turnbull has well overstayed his accommodation at The Lodge.
