Microbats are small nocturnal creatures that can often go unnoticed to us humans.
They play an important role in the ecosystem, however, by consuming large amounts of insects and agricultural pests, by pollinating native plants and by dispersing seeds over a wide area.
Heather Caulfield, WIRES volunteer and microbat enthusiast will cover topics on local microbat and flying fox species, their environmental role in the ecosystem, the threats to bat populations and what you can do to assist populations in your local area.
All animals leave a scat – if you start looking you’ll find scats everywhere.
Scat identification is a fantastic, non-invasive way to monitor native and pest fauna species on your land. For anyone interested in finding out more about the animal world, scats can be a useful tool in revealing their diet, movement and behaviour.
Scat expert, Georgeanna Story from Scats About, will be able to answer all your scat related questions, along with having a diverse display of local scats for you to see.
If you would like to bring some scats along for identification, please bring it along in a plastic zip-lock bag and remember to always handle scats with gloves.
If you would like to RSVP or find out more about this information session please contact Rebecca Klomp on 4842 2594 or upper.shoalhaven@gmail.com.
