Despite offering special prizes for local competitors in 2017, the Lions Club attracted few Braidwood district entrants into the Billycart Derby.

For this reason, the Club has chosen not to run the Billycart Derby in 2018.
The decision was made in mid to late 2017, after organisers had let the dust settle on last May’s event.
The Derby is not gone for good, however, just parked for a while, said club member Laurie Ffrench.
“It ran successfully, and then over time, direct involvement from the local community gradually declined,” Mr Ffrench said.
“In the last couple of years it got very very low, and this was despite the fact that we did our best to encourage locals to enter.”
The club will now focus its energies elsewhere, Mr Ffrench said, but added a groundswell of community support could see the event revived.
“We decided not to run it this year,” Mr Ffrench said. “What that means for next year, or the year after... let’s cross that bridge when we get to it.”
