Despite previously trouncing the Boards at home in a pre-season trial, the Redbacks took to the field a man short with no bench to face a full strength Boars side with a bench of eight.
Similar to both previous games this season, the Redbacks had an outstanding opening 20 minutes leading 5-0 with a length of the field try to young gun Harry Shoemark. But playing with one winger down and front rowers filling in as flankers, the pace of the Boars outside began to break down the Redback’s defences. The Redbacks went to the break down 35-5.
The Redbacks forwards dominated the Boars scrum and in close contested all game. Cade Graff was very strong both taking the ball up and in defence.
The second half was a war of attrition for the Redbacks. With three players carrying injuries to the final whistle, the Redbacks played the second half with 13 players. At times the Redback’s backline looked impressive, but with an exhausted pack, support just wasn’t there when we broke the Boar’s line. The Redbacks pressured the Boar’s line in the final 10 minutes in an impressive never say die effort. Great attitude Redbacks! T
he Boars finally took the game 68-5. Redback’s 3:2:1 went to Cade Graff, Harry Shoemark and Lawrence Rae. Cade Graff was players Player. A special thanks to Nathan Moffitt for again driving the team bus.
The Redbacks should have a number of players returning from injury this weekend at home against Taralga. We are hoping for a big home crowd advantage so please get down to support the local lads at 2:20pm at the Rec ground. Sausage sandwiches and drinks will be available.
