Queanbeyan Police advised on Friday morning officers were still investigating and no arrests had been made.
About 1.35pm, an officer from Monaro Police District attempted to speak with a man on Mowatt Street at Queanbeyan East due to concerns about the driver’s behaviour.
The driver accelerated harshly towards the officer as she approached, forcing her to take evasive action to avoid being hit.
Officers in another police vehicle caught sight of the ute on Bungendore Road and witnessed it cross to the incorrect side of the road and hit a guard rail.
Officers began a pursuit, which was soon stopped due to safety concerns.
The ute was found empty about 1.50pm on Pialligo Avenue, near Canberra airport.
Police describe the man as being of Mediterranean/Middle Eastern appearance, aged in his 20s, with a slim build and dark hair styled in a mullet. He was wearing a dark-coloured top.
Anyone with information about the driver’s identity or his whereabouts is urged to contact Queanbeyan Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
