The Q will host a major exhibition by Campbelltown based internationally renowned art quilter Yvonne Line.
The exhibition Australia – a land of contrasts will showcase Line’s esteemed career across a variety of textile traditions and techniques.
Line has been exploring the use of textiles in various forms since her mid-teens.
Over many years, her focus has been on presenting art work as layered textiles, using remnants and recycled textiles and re-inventing them into a new form.
That which is discarded and seemingly useless, stirs her imagination and form her palette.
One of Line’s main interests has always been in voluntary endeavors, particularly of quilt organisations.
Line was a founding member of Quilt NSW and is the current president of Australia’s premier art quilt organisation, Ozquilt Network Inc.
The Q Exhibition space has held many textile exhibitions over the past 10 years.
Line believed both the venue and the number of textile enthusiasts in the wider region made her decision to hold her retrospective in Queanbeyan an easy choice.
“The Q Exhibition space is a fantastic venue with a history of successful textile based displays,” Line said.
“I am looking forward to hanging the show and welcome one and all to come and have a look, and attend one of my many floor talks if able.”
Line invites visitors to attend an artist’s floor talk throughout the exhibition.
Floor talks will be held every Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 11am and 2pm throughout the exhibition.
Australia – a land of contrasts opens on Thursday, May 31 and continues until Saturday, June 23 at The Q, 251 Crawford Street.
Opening times: weekdays 10am – 4pm and Saturday 10am – 2pm.
