Alpaca breeders from across NSW will participate in what organisers expect will be the biggest show for 2018.
The show will be held across Saturday and Sunday in the Peden Pavilion and under the skillion.
Alpaca showing can be fun and there are plenty of farms around the region, which run some or many of these versatile lovable livestock.
Showing is a way of learning if you are on the right track in improving the quality of the animals you are breeding.
Junior handlers will be competing this weekend, along with some of the country’s most experienced alpaca breeders.
Organisers are expecting this year’s show to be bigger and better than the last with animal and craft competitions. Judging the alpacas this weekend are Ben Schmaal and Dean Ford.
The Alpaca Associations Young Paraders event is a competition designed to give young people from seven to 26 years of age the opportunity to demonstrate their showmanship and stockmanship skills in the ring. There are three levels, Introductory (which is non-competitive), Preliminary and Open.
Events like the one this weekend are open to all, and the association encourage young alpaca farmers and schools with Ag departments to join in these events and share of love of this amazing animal while learning industry skills in stockmanship, showing and judging.
If you have a young Alpaca enthusiasts and or are a school with an agriculture program you are welcome to contact the association further information on up coming shows and entry requirements.
There will also be plenty of opportunity for local people to find out how they can get involved and begin showing their animals.
The Australian Alpaca Association is particularly keen to encourage young people and school groups to take part and learn about the various aspects of the industry. This includes learning what to look for in a quality animal as well as selecting animals for showing and halter training them.
While entries have closed for this show it is an ideal time to find out about registration requirements and preparing for future shows. For people who are not alpaca farmers it is an opportunity to find out about the industry possibilities.
