The entries have been handed over to three local authors for judging with the Award Ceremony to be held on Friday November 16 in the National Theatre.
Lions member Laurie Ffrench acknowledged that writing stories was not the club’s core business and Lions members are impressed at the breadth and depth of talent in the entries.
Mr Ffrench said that the Lions expressed their thanks to all the teaching staff involved. “Despite already having more than their fair share of work commitments the teachers found the time and energy to encourage their students to prepare their individual pieces of work”, he said.
As well as such a high level of interest from the school community, local businesses have again dug deep to provide sponsorship, with some 50 businesses having supported the Young Writers’ Festival.
It is intended that a book containing many entries will be launched at the award ceremony and all entries will be at braidwoodyoungwriters.com
Lions changeover dinner
Braidwood Lions Club held its annual changeover dinner at the Club on Saturday June 23 with the new executive team for the next 12 months, officiated by Zone chair Norm Fountain: Len Balmer (president), Richard Jolley (secretary), and Frank Hansby, treasurer.
QPRC mayor Tim Overall spoke about the great role the Lions Club plays in Braidwood; that, in the past 12 months, almost $20,000 had been raised by the Club for distribution to worthy causes in the community. One recipient of support was the Braidwood Dance Studio. Lions Club members were delighted when Miss Emma presented her students’ large thank you card.
