The truck was parked in Archer Park, heading south along Araluen Road towards the Dargues Mine.

Some community members expressed concern that a sign on the back of the vehicle indicating the truck was carrying explosives had been masked out.

A spokesperson for SafeWork NSW told the Braidwood Times the transportation of explosives by road was under the NSW Explosive Regulation 2013.

The regulation outlines the safety requirements of the Australian Code for the Transport of Explosives by Road and Rail.

“The code includes the conditions for marking, segregation and vehicle requirements,” a SafeWork NSW spokesperson said.

“The code also permits the obscuring of markings on a vehicle when the vehicle is not transporting explosives.”

A spokesperson for mine operators Pybar said the vehicle was carrying an empty shipping container to its site.

The container was to be used to store explosives on site.

The spokesperson said the issue had been brought to the attention of SafeWork NSW and that all parts of the regulatory code were being met by the mine’s operators.

The mine is blasting five days as week as part of the construction of a tunnel.

While some local residents reported hearing and feeling the explosions, no formal complaints have been made to the mine operators.

Explosives for the mine are transported to the site by road through Braidwood in line with the requirements of the regulatory authority.

This requires vehicles carrying explosives to be clearly marked and to avoid, where possible, the main streets of any towns through which they need to pass.
