Danny King, who was on duty at the fireground yesterday afternoon, reported on social media that the fire is located in an area with “heavy fuel loads of harvested pine material, tussock, very dry grass and bushland.”
While the fire is currently contained, heavy north-westerly winds forecast for later today will test containment lines and RFS crews will be on duty at the fire all day.
With around 90% of the state now officially drought-declared, it is timely to remember that even though it is winter, and the bushfire season is still three months away, fire danger is a real and present threat.
There are currently 15 bushfires active in New South Wales. The RFS is warning that the cold front moving across the state later today and tomorrow will result in strong winds and low temperatures. It warns that anyone currently undertaking burning should ensure their fire is properly extinguished and to monitor conditions over the next few days.
