In Majors Creek, where the Crown Land Management Board had been told they would receive $25,000 to upgrade BBQ facilities and seal the road into the ground, a group of around 25 community members were delighted to find that the amount had been doubled.
In making announcing the $50,000 funding injection, Member for Monaro and Deputy Premier, John Barilaro paid tribute to the history of the Majors Creek rec ground, which has been in existence for 125 years.
President of the Crown Land Management Board, Rudi Stachow, said that the extra $25,000 on top of what they had asked for would go a long way towards some vital work at the ground that would have otherwise been beyond their means.
Earlier in Braidwood, Mr Barilaro announced $250,000 for Stage 2 of the upgrade to the Braidwood rec ground. Extending the existing football field, cricket practice nets, tree planting along the Keder Street frontage and a playground were noted as projects for the funding.
Mr Barilaro was joined in Braidwood by QPRC Mayor, Tim Overall, and representatives of the sporting groups that use the rec ground as well as the Life Centre.
