During his visit, the Fat Man in Red was able to inform Jacob McKendry that he would have a dedicated All-Terrain Wheelchair to use at the Australian Jamboree to be held in Adelaide in 2019.
Jacob has a muscle wasting disease which limits the distance he can walk. At the Jamboree, scouts will be required to walk up to 15 kilometres a day, so the All-Terrain Wheelchair will provide Jacob with the mobility required for him to fully experience this once in a lifetime Jamboree.
The wheelchair will be donated to the South Coast and Tablelands region special needs unit by the 1st Braidwood Scouts. The MASONICARE foundation assisted greatly which matched dollar for dollar raised by the 1st Braidwood Scouts in conjunction with the Lodge of Truth Braidwood.
Organisations that assisted in raising the funds for the wheelchair included APEX, Bendigo Bank Braidwood, Lions Braidwood through the KIRK foundation, Lodge of Truth Braidwood, 1st Braidwood Scouts and Hockey’s of Braidwood.
There will be a formal public presentation of the All-Terrain Wheelchair to the South Coast and Tablelands region special needs unit as soon as possible which will be held at the 1st Braidwood Scout Hall.
Santa was delivered to the Scout Hall by the Braidwood Fire and Rescue Brigade and the scouts have expressed their thanks to the firies for their contribution to what was a great celebration.
